Taking a break from activity
How many times a day do you stop whatever it is you’re doing and take a break? Really take a break, as in do nothing for a little while? It’s fine to have a full life, but a life of constant activity isn’t good for us, it keeps us locked in doing mode and is one of the causes of anxiety and stress, not to mention irritability.
I invite you to take a break – in fact, take many breaks throughout your day. They don’t have to be long breaks – you don’t have to take a 15-minute tea break, although that would be great – it can be just for a minute, or even for just a few breaths. Added together these breaks might come to ten or fifteen minutes. Can you spare that much time in your busy schedule? If not, you may need to ask yourself whether your lifestyle is good for you in the long run. When we are constantly on the go we tend to get frazzled, our minds get tired, and we end up paying less attention to the task in hand. Consequently, we don’t do as good a job as we’re capable of. Perhaps taking regular breaks is, in the end, more efficient.
